The recently established Information and Communication Technologies – Technical Working Group (ICT-TWG) of the Philippine Rice Information System (PRISM) attended a seminar on Amazon Web Services (AWS) System and database management last 22 to 23 August 2017 at the Department of Agriculture (DA), Quezon City.

Last 10 August, DA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol signed the special order on the creation of the TWG who will provide the information and guidance in administering and managing the ICT system of PRISM. Staff from the DA-Information Communication Technology Service, DA-Field Operations Service, Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) represent the ICT-TWG.

Members of the PRISM ICT-TWG and other PRISM IT staff, reaching a total of 20 participants, were equipped with the basic knowledge and understanding on how AWS works and were trained in the development planning and implementation of the Information Systems (IS) operational setup.

IRRI IS Specialist Abel Melquiades Callejo and PhilRice IS Analyst Henry Cayaban led the activity, assisted by co-facilitators Arnel Rala from IRRI and Michael Barroga from PhilRice.
